Passivation of stainless SteelSteel. How does it happen?

Let's start by stating that the passivation of this type of material is almost an intrinsic property of it. It occurs naturally when the alloy is in environments (or conditions) that produce oxygen on its surface—but speaking in practical terms? The passivation takes place precisely when the surface of the stainless SteelSteel comes into contact with oxygen. This is followed immediately by the reaction of the chromium present in the alloy, which leads to the formation of oxides and compounds (culprits of the passivation itself). Passivation, however, must be carried out in controlled environments, without metal powders, chlorides, pollutants, fluorides, etc.
